Custom Field: Attachment

What are thoughts around having a custom field being able to contain an uploaded file? Rather than just having a section in the timeline we can refer to, there would be a dedicated section for a specific document. Could also be useful in various cases, eg for deals to progress through a specific stage the field cannot be empty, or automating an email template which could attach said field's file.
