Advanced Search functionality (without creating/modifying filters)

A great improvement would be to add some filtering options to the search functionality, so that users can dynamically refine search results.

We find that having to create and save new filters or modify existing ones every time we want to search is a bit clumsy, and users' list of filters keeps growing and gets messy.

Hi @Josh Craddock , thank you for your suggestion!

I'd like to relay it internally with some more details: can you tell me some more about how you were thinking these added search options would work or be presented? Thank you!

Hi @Inês Batata, I was thinking the user would start by inputting the search term in the usual search box in the header bar. Then along with the dynamic list of results that currently shows, it would display a button "Refine Search" which takes the user to another screen with the list of results.

At the top of the refine search screen you would have some standard commonly used refinement options such as Organisation name, Person name etc. Then you would also have the option to add custom filters similar to how the saved filters currently work. You could also have the option there to save the search as a new filter which would add it to the list of saved filters.

Most CRM systems have search functionality like this. The advantage is you can start with a broad search term using the main search box and then quickly and easily narrow down the results to find what you need.

Thank you very much for the details @Josh Craddock ! I've sent your suggestion to our team so they can consider it.

Thats a great idea.  Also I had wondered about Search Operators similar to google:  "exact match" -exclude etc - would this be possible?

Great ideas @Josh Craddock, I see a lot of different requests for improved search functionality - so likely it's in the works soon.

Hi @Jörgen Sjöstrand ! We've been collecting these suggestions and forwarding them to the team for consideration but can't promise anything right now. 🙂

In the filter edit box, the "preview" functionality does exactly this. It lets you see what search results you get and be sure you're right.  However, you cannot action any of the returned results without saving as a filter.

You'd be close if you just had a "refine" button that popped the exact same modal of the filter, but let you just see the results and action them without having to save the filter.
