Reseller Margin

Hi,

Many IT companies, and probably also in other areas, sell through resellers.

As we register deals and we run the negotiation process usually, unfortunately, we need to provide discounts to close a deal.

The discount column is already available in products, and that's ok.

But we miss an additional discount column (discount2) to be used for reseller's margin.

The reason why I don't think discount should be done for reseller margin is because we want to be able to track our price changes from the pricelist in regards to the sale, and also to keep an easy to understand discount value (percentage) to that customer.

So my propose is to be able to have multiple discount values, in that discount2 will be calculated from the price value after discount1 (currently there).

We decided to create a product called 'PARTNER MARGIN' but this means we need to manually feed this value for every deal - and being a human thing it's prone to errors.

I was hoping if this improvement could be considered by the management team!

I'm fully available to discuss and elaborate more on this if necessary.

Hi @Alexandre Miguel Aniceto , thank you for your feedback!

Unfortunately right now we don't have an option for fields that perform calculations, but I can tell you that it's in our plans. There's been some interesting discussions about that over here, take a look.

I completely understand how adding an additional product manually might be a risk. Maybe a smoother option would be to create a custom field in Products (I suggest choosing a "Monetary" type of field) and tick the boxes to make them always show up in the sidebar and in the "Add new product" dialog boxes. It's still not perfect, but I think it will make your life easier.

I've also made sure to relay your suggestion internally for consideration.

    Hi Inês,

    Thanks for your quick reply.

I've tried that solution before, but the field will not appear when adding an item/product to a deal. Even with all checkboxes ticked.

Also, by doing this what I can do is then use this value (from an API perspective) to prepare the quote - which we are doing.

Also this will not have any impact on the deal value - which should be the ((price value * quantity ) - customerDiscount) - resellerMargin.

So it's not only about 'saving' some value - numeric or percentage, manual or with a calculation - but also impacting the total.

Anyway, in reality what i want is a discount2 that is used after discount1...

    Thanks,

    Alex
