Checkboxes looses value when updating via api

When I update via api a custom field which contains checkboxes it looses previous values. Is there any other way to track all my lead magnets instead of creating a custom field for each one of them ? Maybe some events I can send to a api every time someone downloads a lead magnet ?

    thanks for sharing. I've actually been discussing this with the team, hopefully we can improve that in the future. For now the best solution is to export, update the data and reimport based on the ID's of the item to update the whole field. 

    Not ideal, but it does the trick..
