Mailigen and Pipedrive Best Practices

So I purchased Mailigen a couple of months ago and am really struggling to get started mainly due to our data and lack thereof data to use.  

I've spent a couple of weeks just looking at the data and identifying new fields that I can use in Mailigen in the future for better personalization. However, now I'm finding that the framework or my original plan may not work.     Here are some questions I have. 

1.) Is the best way of setting up for successful marketing communications to create a master list by creating a filter in Pipedrive and using that as your master list instead of filtering everyone into Pipedrive and then creating segments there? Then I could use that Pipedrive master list to create segments in Mailigen? 

2.) Are there data points in Mailigen or Pipedrive I can use for deals, leads, or specific deal pipeline stages? This seems like a no-brainer, but I can't find the data point. For example, a person in our pipeline stage that is gearing up for a presentation, I want to send them relevant content related to what to expect and any upfront reading material that might be helpful and finally a reminder 3 days prior to the meeting and 1 day prior to the meeting.  In addition, we'll have our 1 email a month to those who are not in a deals yet, but then we'll also have personalized campaigns for individuals in different stages of the pipeline. Finally, we'll have an email to our admin/accounts so not salesy just talking about new products or support information that may be helpful. 

3.) When setting up the tracking in Mailigen for engagement that ties back to Pipedrive, I am setting up an activity to "call" when a contact opens an email 3 times, does that mean a unique email or does that also mean the same email 3 or 4 times? Same for clicks, is the ability to create an activity unique clicks by email or is also if they click on one email 4 times? 

4.) It looks like I can also set up activities for email sends but it doesn't look like I can just append marketing email engagement or lack thereof to a deal note or contact or organization note. For example, X received X marketing email and didn't open or opened 2 times and clicked 1 time. I simply want this in the notes of the deal or lead or contacts. Does this exist or how does this work so I understand it better as I'm setting all of this up. The video I watched seems pretty surface and I need a further explanation. 

HELP!!!
