Email Metrics without Internal Communications

One of our metrics, like many others, is the quantity of inbound/outbound emails to clients. Our employees exist in our PipeDrive account as people.
Currently, the way Insights functions with the two-way email syncing is that it will count ALL inbound/outbound emails and there's no straightforward way to omit internal communications. Internal communications inflate their email metrics erroneously.
The workaround I tried was to add our internal domain to each account's list of "Blocked" email addresses. While this works to keep the numbers from being inflated, it also won't count any emails to clients that have an internal email address CCd, for example.
