Adding date of birth or DOB in the leads as info field, and in contacts by default. I buy leads and need that info to come through API. Seems basic name, address, email, phone, and DOB right?

Curious to see what votes come up over time here0

Curious to see how this kind of data gathering stacks up with GDPR, CCPA and other data privacy laws coming up. Personally don't think it's warranted.0

I am required by law to have the info, I am a fiduciary and cant do my job without the info.0

It’s Age that’s calculated from dob that would benefit those of use with product & services that are a function of age.0

It is subjective and completely depends on the business. I've got a couple of "must haves" as well.0

I want to start out by giving kudos to @Pete Mahon for keeping privacy and compliance in mind when talking about data! The question here is precisely whether holding such the data is warranted. In some sectors, a date of birth might be necessary or even required. In other situations, the exact birth date might not be necessary (e.g. birth year would be enough to run statistics on your customers’ age distribution). In any case, the best approach is always to process the minimum amount of personal data that you absolutely need - not only because of compliance but also in terms of risk.0

Yes, case by case it is a risk vs reward outcome. I myself as a Financial Advisor I have gone through FBI background checks many times for work, such as lawyers, doctors, and teachers to name a few. these jobs are not your normal background check because of the information we have access too.0

Why can't you just use a custom field? Those pass through the API also.0

Yes I can add it in contact but not a lead with Pipedrive. Thanks Martin! Yes DOB does come through API I do this with other CRM's0

Hi Jeff. My tuppence. The question for me isn't about integrity, it's about data controlling and processing and your requirement to hold such data for a *lead* vs a *client*.
We hold personal identity documents, and consequently data points, of our clients for KYC/taxation reasons but we would never collect this in our lead process. It sounds like you're perhaps using Pipedrive as a servicing application rather than driving your leads towards client acquisition, unless I'm mistaken.
GDPR (and CCPA) requires you to hold the minimum amount of data about a person and only to hold it if absolutely necessary. Additionaly, it is required that this Personally Identifiable Information is purged if you are no longer servicing the individual.
@Steve Johnson, same thing. If you're collecting Dates of Birth to calculate age, why not ask for age? If you then convert the lead, ask for actual Date of Birth. Makes your subsequent data controller responsibilities that much easier!
As a Pipedrive Partner, one of the key selling points for me is GDPR (and CCPA) compliance out of the box. Introducing the ability to collect date of birth at lead generation time kind of defeats this as I can't mark the custom field as a confidential field, nor hide it from others who don't need to see it. Pipedrive wins clients for its simplicity.
I'm with @Martin Boonzaayer (thanks for the privacy upvote!). If you must get DoB, use a custom field and process the data manually or using a platform like Integromat.0 -
Pete, since my sales cycle can be 6 to 36 months my lead's age changes during the sales cycle so I need my CRM to display current age. My previous CRM did this so I'm hoping others will as PD to add AGE field.0

I second Pete's comment. It's very easy to use a tool like Integromat or Zapier to update an "Age" field based on a date field.0

We are asked too many times to give up pieces of our personal info that makes us all feel more and more vulnerable. I think if you really need this info for your prospects, can you simply ask them as an age range instead?0

that would not be a firm quote and if someone was 49 close to 50 numbers and expectations will change a lot. What do I do pick up the phone and call them lol nobody wants to communicate these days it is said. anyways if they are willing to giving me the info I am paying for then why not? Again I am a fiduciary I am held to a higher standard. I need this info to process 401k IRS compliant rollovers. it's needed my friends w weather you agree or not the government wants certain info I am sure you understand. we have to be compliant with anti-tourism money transfers, new accounts, and so on. If I had to call people on the phone or have them email it to me I am sure I would lose a lot of business. Please feel safe in their homes or on their phone putting in the info. studies have found people are less likely to give out their email or cell phone number than there social security number in the US hahahahahaha. that's why it's up to me to put that info in a safe place like Pipedrive:) have a record of calls and everything to train people the right way and not to lie or mislead people. this service of Pipedrive not only protects me but clients from potential mistakes recorded. A way to keep the highest standards of a prudent person.0

Ines Batata, I have read what is in the link, but still not clear to me. Where/how is the best way to store a DOB or Birthdate for a Contact? I want it to trigger or prompt me to send Happy Birthday Message to a contact.0
