Can't unsubscribe a contact from Marketing

When a contact is subscribed to marketing, there is a drop down which allows the user to manually switch the contact to "unsubscribe".
When we manually unsubscribe and hit "save", the contact instantly switches back to subscribed.
This seems like a fault in Pipedrive?
Is there some reason why this would happen and is there a way to fix it?
