When one deal becomes two. New feature to split activity?

I'm working on a deal, and over the course of several months a second opportunity emerges, with some overlapping people. The original deal is still in motion. I'd love it if there was a feature to select specific activities (that in retrospect, opened the door for the second deal) and move them to a new deal, but keep all the players and add new ones to the new deal.
Right now, to do this I have to create a new deal and recreate any correspondence manually, or refer to the original deal.
