Default fields created by contact sync

The default fields that are created by Contact Sync, such as "Instant Messanger" or "Birthday", sit empty for us & and clutter the Details page. It seems like you're unable to remove them like other fields, but we don't want to just hide all the fields on our page that are unpopulated.

How have others approached this same situation? I'm looking to clean up our overall Custom fields situation to help make our instance less cluttered and more useful to our sellers.

I group all unwanted fields into an 'Other' group and keep that group collapsed.
