Happy Monday, Pipedrive community!

A new and highly expected feature is already being released: the ability to set up triggers based on specific dates.

What: You can automate tasks such as sending emails on your clients’ birthdays (the example shown above), sending email reminders for your upcoming meetings or scheduling a call a week before the expected close date of a deal.

For whom: Now rolling out to all companies on Advanced and higher plans.

You can learn all about setting up date-triggered automations from our knowledge base article here.

    Oh come on guys, seriously!!!

    180 days maximum??

We need to be able to set a trigger for months and years, so that we can set up reminders for product refreshes.

    Why do you tease us?

Hey @MBrown can you please elaborate? There might be a way to get this done.

@MBrown - the date-based triggers may solve this problem for you.

This is great! How would you repeat this to send every year on their birthday?

Hi @CMB you can refer to step 5 of the example shown above. In that example, the automation sends out a notification and will also update the ‘next birthday’ field to the same date the following year. This will ensure the automation runs again in one year for that contact.

Thanks @Manuel Oliveira - I copied the Workflow but it doesn't seem to be working - can you see why?

Hi @Nikolai Sokolov , there is nothing showing in history for this workflow. I'll try testing it again.

Hi @Nikolai Sokolov , I tested it again and there's still not history showing so I guess I've set the trigger up wrong?

Hi @CMB most probably. Try triggered by anyone.

We organise data by date of birth… Not next birthday. How would we achieve this automation? Zapier does it perfectly but because a date of birth might be in the year 1985, the automation doesn't trigger in pipedrive. Am I wrong?

@PattyBoomBoom thats correct, automation wont trigger. Just make 2 fields: date of birth and next date of birth

Thanks for your suggestion @Nikolai Sokolov but it isn't an option to choose 'selected by anyone' when using a date trigger. How else could I do this?

oh my bad, correct - triggered by date just triggers. what's the history of that automation showing? is it showing any runs at all?

    I have a question!

If I have a custom field called "Last Payment Due" which is a date field. And I want to automatically create a deal say 90 days before the due date, will the automation pick up the companies that are within that date range or just on the exact 90 day mark?

I ask this because the automation does not seem to be working for existing customers that are already past the 90days.

hi @MBrown ! using the new date trigger workflow automation, you can base it on the last payment due field, then let it launch 90 days before that.

it will definitely not work for those past this scope tho - you'd need to update their due date to today + 91 days to trigger the automation

@Nikolai Sokolov I gthered that it woudn't work for dates after the 90 days, I'm talking about within the 90 days, say 45 or 50 etc.

automation trigger expects to catch something on the date, i.e. today - 90. so none of the other combinations and timeframes will trigger.

@Nikolai Sokolov No, there is no history at all for this Workflow 🤔

therefore, the condition is not met. test with a condition of a shorter period or adjust one of the dates to be 91 days, so that the trigger happens tomorrow

We really need to extend the 'before' ability for date based triggers to include hours and minutes, not just days. For example, if we have a call activity scheduled with a customer for 3PM, we would like to be able to trigger an email or SMS reminder at 2:30-2:45 to remind them of the call. It could also be used to remind our own agents of their activities coming up. This is where I see one of the greatest potentials for this feature but being restricted to entire days really limits it's capabilities.
