Can We Send Emails Directly from Pipedrive Without Third-Party Providers?

Hello Pipedrive Community,

I've been working with the Pipedrive API and have successfully integrated it with third-party email providers like SendGrid and Mailgun to send emails. However, I am curious if it's possible to send emails directly from Pipedrive without relying on these third-party services.

My Findings So Far

  1. Pipedrive API Documentation: I've reviewed the Pipedrive API documentation extensively. While there are comprehensive endpoints for managing deals, persons, organizations, and activities, I couldn't find any endpoint dedicated to sending emails directly.
  2. Activities Endpoint: I understand that emails can be logged as activities, but this requires an external email service to actually send the email before logging it in Pipedrive.
  3. Mail Integration: Pipedrive offers native email integration within the app, allowing users to send emails directly from their Pipedrive interface using connected email accounts. However, this functionality doesn't seem to extend to the API.

Questions

  1. Native Email Sending via API: Is there any hidden or undocumented API feature that allows sending emails directly from Pipedrive without using third-party email services like SendGrid or Mailgun?
  2. Future Plans: Are there any plans to introduce such functionality in future updates of the Pipedrive API?
  3. Workarounds: If direct email sending is not currently possible, what are some recommended workarounds? Are there any best practices for integrating email sending capabilities seamlessly with Pipedrive?

Why This Feature is Important

Direct email sending from Pipedrive would greatly simplify workflows and reduce dependencies on external services. This could enhance the security and reliability of email communications, making it easier to maintain control over the entire process within the Pipedrive ecosystem.

    I can see you've done lots of research into the subject, thank you for sharing all your findings! This is product feedback because there's currently no option to send emails from Pipedrive without using an email client.

    Pipedrive works as a mirror of the email client, which is why there's always a need to synchronize an email account OR, send an email outside of Pipedrive and then link it to a deal via the Smart BCC feature. As far as I know, there's no plan in place to turn Pipedrive into an email client which would then allow you to send emails directly from Pipedrive.

    Regarding the API endpoints, you're right, there's no endpoint that allows you to use an email client but send the email from Pipedrive - I found a recent post where our team mentioned that this was feedback: https://devcommunity.pipedrive.com/t/send-mail-through-apis/3934 so it looks like there's no current workaround possible.
