When analyzing your sales pipeline using Pipedrive reports, Deal Progress and Deal Duration should be your go-to reports for insights on deal progress and efficiency. Understanding the differences between these reports is key to optimizing your pipeline management.
Deal Progress report
Purpose:
To display the movement of deals through the pipeline stages over time, showing you how well deals progress through your sales cycle.
Things to remember:
- Most recent stage changes: for example, even if a deal is moved from Stage 2 back to Stage 1, that deal is shown in Stage 1.
- Stage skipping also counts: If a deal moves from Stage 2 directly to Stage 5 in the selected time frame, it will show as having entered stages 3, 4 and 5.
- Forward progress only: Tracks forward movements along the pipeline, focusing on deals advancing rather than regressing.
Deal Duration report
Purpose:
To evaluate how long your sales cycle is, how long deals stay in each Stage, and help identify bottlenecks and improve efficiency.
Things to remember:
- Focus on completed cycles: While you can use this report on open deals, it is particularly useful for won or lost deals. It gives you visibility into the journey of a concluded deal.
- Reports average time spent in each Stage: even for deals that did not go through every Stage before being marked as closed.
- Deleted stages don’t count: Stages that were removed from the pipeline won’t affect duration calculations.
Choosing the best report for the job
- Use the Deal Progress Report to track deal flow and identify progression patterns.
- Use the Deal Duration Report to analyze time spent in stages and uncover bottlenecks.
- Be sure to leverage filters to obtain the visibility you're looking for: the Stage filter focuses on current deal placement, and Stage Entered captures the deal’s stage journey.
