Automation based on Products within a Deal

I would like to create a set of automations that run based on products that are in deals when they are won. However, I cannot find a way to do this. The instant conditions for deals does not include the ability to filter based on products within that deal. The only workaround I have found is to say that the deal price is equal to "x". However, this mandates that a separate deal be created for each product. The other potential option is to put the [product name] in the title and have the automation run when the deal title contains [product name]. But too feels clunky.

Has anyone else run into this and found a good way to do this?

    Hi @Justin Hess,

This is a bit of a limitation with automations as Pipedrive does not consider adding a product as a deal update for automation triggers and as you mentioned, products are not available as automation conditions.

Automations based on "Deal updated" only recognize changes to deal fields (The deal title, status, value, stage, custom fields, etc), but not when a product is added.

The workarounds you suggested are great ideas but indeed require an extra step or some manual entry. I wanted to suggest another workaround, however, it will also require either an extra manual step or the use of an integration such as Zapier.

You would utilize custom fields for this- When a product is added to a deal, manually fill in the deal custom field with the product information, then you can base the conditions of your automation on this custom field with the product data. Then when a deal is updated with this specific product data, the automation will complete the action. For example-

Regarding the limitation, please feel free to share this as feedback in our ideas and product feedback section of the community so other users can upvote your suggestion!

    I hope this helps!

Well, I believe that the fact that you are not considering Products as a separate entity - the same way you treat Organization, Person, Deal or Activity - is the root cause of this and quite a few other problems Pipedrive is causing us :(

This would be a great help - it limits not only Automations, but also Filtering and Insights/Reporting 🤷‍♂️.
I mean I love Pipedrive, but the way it works with products is one of the TOP 3 weaknesses of the product from my point of view…
