Placeholder text within Custom Fields

When creating a custom field it would be nice to provide placeholder text which would appear every time the field is presented on an editable screen, just to give some basic example to the end user of what is required.

I tend to use required rules and once a field gets to a given status in the pipeline I expect the end user to complete the fields that are required in the pop up modal, these are also missing tooltips, just the simple (i) field description.
