When there is a potential to sell the contact something [so that you can track the lifecycle]

When they specify some or any interest in our services

usually after positive reaction or any communication - depends if you track lost deals or not (which will be created based on negative first reply)

landscape maintenance & construction industry. Immediately when a customer calls in for an estimate or consultation. When cold calling a deal is added when the prospect is open to discussing a proposal. With property management companies that is pretty often. In the case of the random business in an industrial park that is less often.

glazing industry/residential. similar to this - when a potential customer contacts us with a specific project that they want to discuss - if they're at the 'dreaming' stage we wouldn't add a deal, if they have drawings and a genuine requirement, we add a deal. We have a lost reason 'disqualified' for any deals that don't pass qualification (e.g. project too far away, low budget etc).
