Asking for Advice: Bulk convert contacts to leads

Sorry if this is a duplicate but I couldn't find the response I needed so I am posting a new one.

I have a bunch of contacts I want to bulk convert to leads however I can't find that function.  I tried importing into the leads inbox but the records were just merged with existing contacts and no new lead was created.  I can manually 'add lead' when I click into the contact however that is too time consuming as I have over 1000 I want to convert.  Any suggests?

Hi @Trevor Shimizu , Leads in Pipedrive have Contacts linked to them anyway so something I can suggest is:
- Export a list of contacts (with their IDs) that you want to create leads for
- Create a column for the Lead title in that spreadsheet and assign a Lead name. 
- Import the list back in, and it will create new Leads for those Contacts.

This is a horrible solution. How can Pipedrive not have a simple batch action available from the contacts view? How can you not connect the different components of the application to create basic workflows?

You can use a custom field and workflow automation to create a Lead linked to a Person. Take a look at this 1.5-min video for a brief overview of the process.
