Automation Required? Last Activity Date not Updating After Emailing a Lead

I am emailing leads from the application and the "Last Activity Date" is not updating when the email is sent.

Does this require automation?

If so, How do I automate this? Its confusing.

    This is working as designed.

    Last email sent date and last activity date are two separate fields.

    I think it's weird that an email sent isn't tracked as an activity. Now I need to have two fields to track what is activity!
