Logging customer events (not rep activities)

Is there a recommended way to log events against a person, organization, or deal/lead?

For example, I would like to log an event against a person when they register for a webinar. My ideal is that this would show up in the feed like an activity, but it would be automated with structured data.

Hi @johndbritton , it can depend on how your data is organized, but there are a few things you can try:

Custom fields: If a webinar registration is an important element in your deal progression, you can try having a deal custom field for this (i.e. a single option "Has attended webinar?" with Yes/No or a multiple option "Webinars attended" and then the webinar names)

Custom activity types or Notes: If it’s only for record-keeping, you can also have a custom-activity type named after a given webinar, or even notes with details pertaining to the webinar. In case of a custom activity that requires no action, you can have an automation that marks the custom activity as “Done” at the same time as it is created.

@Manuel Oliveira Thanks for the workarounds.

Neither of these are ideal, but can work for the time being. I'd really like to see a way to attach data to objects that is structured and also filterable.

The approach with activities would end up impacting all of our analytics related to our reps and also activities have to be assigned to reps.

The approach with data fields would likely work, but they won't show up in the timeline and also each thing we attach something to an object, there's no way to include additional structured data and make that data searchable.
