Merging duplicates on importing data - adding labels

When I import data and set the records to merge on duplication, it always replaces the labels that are already entered with new labels rather than adding to it. Is there a way around this?

When manually merging contacts, it keeps both labels rather than replacing.

thanks

    Hello Alexandra,

Yes, that’s the expected behavior; when importing data, the existing input is replaced with the new one instead of added.

In these cases, it is advised that you first export the existing information (labels) and add the new information you want to that column. This way, when importing, you’ll be able to map the existing and new labels in the column, keeping all information instead of deleting it.

    Hope this helps.

    Have a great day!

Yes I know that this is what happens. I'm just wondering why when I do a manual merge that both labels remain. It would be super useful if this could happen on an import merge.
